Ruuuudeboy soul rollers from the Thriller crew dropping two immense and heavy edits for the club. We're not at liberty to divulge who's behind these slow-bombs but i'm sure a little digging in the undergrowth of the interwub should reveal a few clues. The anonymous beatfreaker takes his scalpel to two killer 80's soul cuts, firstly 'Freak For You' on the A-side with slapped-up motorbass, hard swinging drums, crafty scratch chops and dynamic compression for the perfect 2am fugged-head in the club vibe. Secondly 'Point And Gaze' sticks with the aesthetic but in a manner more associated with amnesiac meanderings, sending the original elements through a haze of squahed focus FX on one of the trippiest breakdowns you'll hear this year, before rocking back in with flanged drums and a magical synth motif to float you to the end. If you've recently been dreaming about a more psyched version of Floating Points or imagining what Anthony Shakir could sound like on a fistful of valium, this is your bag. KILLLERRRR!!!!!!!

Dub. Techno. Deep. Smokey… This sound is clearly an integral part of the growing SD Records catalog and Ovatow sets a new standard here. On the a-side the 11:42 minutes long X dub I, a deep and warm dubtechno track with layers of lush strings and electronic winds on a deep and warm bass bed. Strong Korg MS20 like hihats and a constant evolving synth stab take you into Ovatow’s universe. And beyond… The b-side shifts into higher gear with X dub II. More uptempo, but nonetheless full of electronic soul. Powerful sounds and a constant thriving beat makes this one all the more suitable for the clubs, without losing depth. Both will find their way to many dancefloors. Essential dubtechno record!

Delusions hits the spot once again with number 3, this time highlighting the production skills of a certain Zepp001. The Seattle based disco obsessive has been leaking out high class edits over the years under a dizzying array of deliberately forgettable pseudonyms but feels the time is right to push his original tracks. Who better then to make these beauties available for you discerning DJ’s than Delusions Of Grandeur. Don’t Sleep is a dark, brooding groover with throbbing bass, cute cuica fills and intense strings that Lalo Schifrin would be proud of. A real heavy mood setter and as good an introduction to the sound of Zepp001 as you’re likely to need. Next up we have the mighty Revenge in for remix duties on Don’t Sleep. The much hyped master of the edit keeps the vibe of the original well and truly in place but opts for an even more stripped back approach leaving all the space for crisp claps, slowly building strings and bowel wobbling bass. Flip over for Giraffe, a more upbeat affair where the filtered keys come to the fore and things steer in a hyped up deep house direction.

As a seductive taster and spectral glimpse of the forthcoming King Midas Sound full length, ‘Dub Heavy - Hearts And Ghosts’ is an EP of three of that album’s tracks dubbed into new alien versions. King Midas Sound is the duo of Kevin Martin, known for his groundbreaking work over the last decade as The Bug, teamed with Roger Robinson, reputed writer and spoken word performer. The pair first worked together in 2003 on The Bug’s ‘Pressure’ album, but within these King Midas grooves, the visceral drive characteristic of The Bug’s fevered sound is replaced by deeper core energies, and graced with Robinson’s gentle soul lilt, the combination is blissfully, crushingly powerful. On these tunes, song structure and vocal are intoxicated with unsettling fx and consumed with reverb, pressing the music into haunting and unfamiliar territory. ‘I Dub’ marries booming bass and gaseous echo to grime hand-claps and a tense chilling melody. Centrepiece ‘Ting Dub’ fuses ominous distant sirens, shifting vocal streams, decelerated hip hop boom bap and a geologic subsonic rumble into a wraith-like miasma, while on ‘Too Long Dub’, the sinister chiming pendulum motif and decaying vocals dissolve into a delirious haze of toxic audio reflections. Burning like an endless fuse, this special release will be available only for a limited period, pressed on high grade 180g heavy guage vinyl, and is also Hyperdub’s first ever individually artworked 12”, housed in a photo jacket with gold-embossed detail.

Consistently covering the deeper end of the dubstep spectrum, the label that gave us the debuts from Indigo and Narcossist maintains the pressure with two ambient textured steppers. Indigo's 'Runes' is amongst his best yet, incorporating influences from the likes of Appleblim or Peverelist into his sound with successful results. His Manchester counterpart SYNKRO contrinutes the deep blue moods of 'My Own World' on the flip with a dubstep ode to the bliss of solipsis with autotuned vocals and swirling chord sequences.

To call this release anticipated would be a huge understatement as Cooly G and Kode 9/Hyperdub have been whipping up a storm of interest around her fresher-than-owt UKF mutations since the beginning of this year. To date she's notched up an awesome Fact mix and a series of killer CD only releases through London's Blackmarket, not to mention a reputation as a serious DJ in Funky circles, but no vinyl releases until now. Cooly describes her own sound as having a "Deep house tribal dubstep vibe" and we really wouldn't argue as it's sits comfortably outside of the barriers formed by each style and just as easily within them. The world couldn't really ask for a nicer introduction to her feminine pressure than 'Love Dub' featuring her own vocals formed into wispy snippets over an intricately syncopated post-garage rhythm that fairly defines the progression of London Bass music into housier climes. On this and the slightly tuffer 'Refix' she shuffles her beats like few others we can mention, taking cues from Broken Beat and Garage, but removing any snagging kinks in favour of buttered flows and hazy hued dub vibes. The EPs final cut 'Narst' sets her closer to the house crew with a straighter 4/4 kick guiding the track, but the plastic string stabs and swollen subbass dips come from somewhere else entirely, showing her connections to a London club culture that's swung from grime to dubstep and now an Africanised house format settled on fundamental dancefloor aspects. Everyone's playing her tracks from Kode 9 to Marcus Nasty with many more to join them soon enough, so make sure you give this woman some due attention! Massively Recommended!

Ceephax's Drive Time K7 was released as a bonus cassette with his first album, and is a cult classic. Copies rarely appearing on ebay are now just unaffordable. Half an hour of music per side, ranging from banging vocal acid to the deepest and darkest side of ambient, with everything in between. The 27 tracks are a perfect description of Andy Jenkinson's original music universe, his roots. It took about quite a while to transfer it onto acetate, it was one of the most challenging vinyl cut that anyone can imagine. The making of this record is kind of similar to Homer's Iliad. The stamper was then stored for several years, safe from the dangers of heat and daylight. Just like for the nicest bottles of wine. Firtcask Records just took this jewel out of the cellar...

This is a great record from Mr Ed DMX and comes well recommended from me. Classic Drexcia meets Kraftwerk sounds all at varying tempo's. Its all given that extra bounce thanks to Ed's superior analogue production skills. Cherry Ripe is my pick of the bunch but its all killa no filla on this one.

Sometimes you have those artists who can shock you with a very good 12'' and after that they're not able to satisfy your expectations. Dynarec is one of those who are able to impress each and everytime he releases some of his works. Coming from France, Dynarec improves the most advanced experimental electro as much as no one did before, giving it more awareness and knowledge, making it more concrete and straight. A journey into those post-drexciyan atmospheres that reaches some of the highest moment in 'new electro' history.

Miami's Isophlux label has already provided a launch pad for electronica heavyweights like Lusine, Lexaunculpt and Gosub, but now the imprint's just limbering up for a second life, having been off the radar since 2001. Isophlux spearheads its return with Anthhiliawaters, a project once described as "breakfast electro" (an odd idea given support by the label's website). This is far more than mere music to eat cereal to: the production taps into a Detroit-influenced vision of the future, with warm, jazzy synth pads supplying a melodic counterpart to the softly crunching, electro-tinged beats. The bizarre breakfast theme rears its head once again on 'Morning Coffee', in which a voice tells you to "wake up" repeatedly. Crazy. Once again though the simplicity and warmth of the production wins out - this is solid home listening fare that allows its warehouse roots to show through just enough to avoid being tarred with an IDM brush.

“You may know Joakim Bouaziz from his 2007 album Monsters & Silly Songs, a sui generis fusion of disco, post-punk and pop that became something of an instant cult classic. You may know him for his remixes of artists like Cut Copy, Simian Mobile Disco, Annie, Alter Ego, DJ Mehdi, Royksopp and Poni Hoax. You may know him from his years behind the scenes at Tigersushi, the iconic Parisian label at the crossroads between post-punk, dance music and the avant-garde. But whatever you think you know about Joakim, prepare to be very surprised by this, his third studio album. Frankly, prepare to be blown away: the opening “Back to Wilderness” takes care of that with eight minutes of sturm-und-klang dirge that’s more Black Sabbath than Black Devil, more Sonic Youth than Sleeping Bag. And that’s just the intro. Over the course of a tidy 51 minutes, Joakim and his band mates fold together bits of psychedelia, old-school computer music, exotica, electro-pop, blues, new wave, New Pop, Krautrock and more into an expansive, remarkably coherent album that refuses to be reduced to a single genre, much less a single idea. This is no pastiche: these are proper songs, and the whole album follows the kind of overall arc that’s rare in a contemporary longplayer. “Spiders” is the first single off the album, with six delirious minutes of Italo arpeggios, fluid vocal harmonies, acid-house snares and an extended Afro-pop breakdown that perfectly sum up the record’s madcap, magpie spirit. A few tracks — “Travel In Vain”, “King Kong Is Dead” — remain essentially unadulterated, capturing the live band in full flame. Others, with their complex, interlocking layers of guitars, synthesizers, beats and vocals, reflect Joakim’s role as architect — but the final form is as surprising to him as anyone. “I think that most (young) artists today are like archaeologists, especially in graphics and contemporary art,” says Joakim. “You can’t compete with history, with what’s been done. You need to use that, in..."
